Jhett was named for the James Dean character in “Giant” and the biggest Johnson brings to mind steer wrestler or maybe linebacker more so than the physical image of a roper. But roping is Jhett’s livelihood and he is among the best professional heelers in team roping today. He holds a Bachelor’s in psychology which helped maintain the required mental focus during his first WNFR last year. The Johnson family dates to the late 1880s on their spread located west and south of Casper, Wyoming. Jhett and Jenny’s boys represent the sixth generation to inhabit the ranch. The log house on the property is one of the oldest in Wyoming still serving as a residence. Jhett calls his 2006 “up and down” however he’s very pleased with his new partner for this years’ finals – Travis Tryan of Billings, Montana.
