Weekend Dutch Oven

The Rocky Mountain Dutch Oven Cooking Company will offer a weekend Dutch oven cooking school May 17 & 18, 2008, at the Miner's Delight Inn Bed & Breakfast in Atlantic City, Wyo. The package includes a night at the inn, a #12 Dutch oven and associated gear, four Dutch oven meals, evening Cowboy Poetry around the campfire, and guided tours of the South Pass City State Historic Site and the Carissa gold mine.

Lander, Wyoming's Jack Schmidt, wilderness cook and student of heritage cooking methods, teamed with Atlantic City innkeepers Barbara and Bob Townsend to put on the class. Schmidt will ensure students get hands-on experience as they season, cook in, and care for their new #12 cast iron Dutch ovens. Using a variety of woods and other fuels, including cow chips, students will learn as they prepare four meals and an evening appetizer.
