Come experience the Potters’ Depot where art meets history in the middle. Located in a converted 1920’s train depot, the Potters’ Depot is an art gallery and pottery studio that brings a little SoHo to Buffalo. In creating this unique space, the owners, Bonnie and David Schlesselman, maintained the personality and ambience of the old depot by retaining its wood floors, vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, and floor-to-ceiling cargo doors. This historic site is simply too cool to miss.
The Potters’ Depot gallery offers pottery of all kinds, from platters to whimsical soap dishes. Bonnie applies her own glazes and colored slips in distinctive ways to create a broad spectrum of colors and textures for her pottery. Each handcrafted piece is not only display art, but it is also dishwasher, oven, and microwave safe. The gallery also exhibits David’s fanciful, decorative fish, which have become quite popular, especially the colorful local favorite – rainbow trout.
In the studio, Bonnie teaches classes year round. Students of all ages and abilities are encouraged to take advantage of the offered open studio time to practice their pottery-related skills. If you stop in, you just might see student potters in action.
The Potters' Depot gallery is located at the historic Buffalo train depot on the corner of Lobban and Benteen. The gallery is open Wednesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., or by appointment. For more information, contact Bonnie Schlesselman at 307-684-4555.
