Canoe adventure on the Snake River

During the summer of 1961 I had the opportunity of managing a Canoe base for the Boy Scouts of America.

During that summer, several of my friends and I took a special canoe trip for experienced canoeists only, down the Snake River.

We put in the river near the Hoback Junction, and traveled through some of the wildest parts of the Snake River in Wyoming.  We did this trip with 3 life preservers each.  It was a good thing we had them, as we all swamped our canoes in some of the rougher areas.

My mother, dad, and sister were watching from the highway overlooks. My mother said that as she was watching, she was sure her son and the others with him were going to drown.

Fortunately, everything ended well for us, and I had one of the best river rides I have ever had.

Would I do it again?  No!  I was 23 years old then, and not married.  At 71, I'm in good shape, but not as good as I was then.  This trip was my favorite Wyoming memory.
