See you in Converse County

SCENERY SEEKERS…will marvel at the 10,000-foot high Laramie Peak on Converse County’s southern skyline. It’s the first mountain travelers along the Oregon Trail saw en route to their new home. The breathtaking view continues to greet area visitors.
Crafted by the hands of Mother Nature, Ayres Natural Bridge, located just south of the Oregon Trail, is one of only three natural bridges in the United States with water beneath. Considered one of Wyoming’s first tourist attractions, this striking natural wonder includes a picnic area and hiking paths.

HISTORY BUFFS…Pony Express Riders also raced through the area carrying the West’s first mail. The Bozeman Trail, abandoned over 140 years ago in 1867, branched off near present-day Glenrock. Including a stop at historic Fort Fetterman, remnants of the fort are now open to visitors. Top your historical excursion off with a visit to the Wyoming Pioneer Museum located on the Wyoming State Fairgrounds in Douglas.

DINOSAUR DIGGERS…For those who want to venture all the way back to prehistoric times, the Glenrock Dinosaur Museum gives you a personal, hands-on view of rare Triceratops and bone preparation. You can even participate in a real fossil dig!

TRAIN FANS…Still chugging through the area today, trains are a part of Converse County’s past and present. A visit to the Douglas Railroad Interpretive Center is a must for train enthusiasts, with its steam locomotive and eight rail cars.

OUTDOOR ENTHUSIASTS…Whether it’s recreation on the waters of nearby Glendo Reservoir or camping you crave, Converse County offers a diverse landscape. The Medicine Bow National Forest is a great place for you and your family to camp, ride horseback, rock climb, fish, snowmobile and cross country ski. For a very different setting, explore the rugged beauty of the Thunder Basin National Grasslands, over 500,000 acres of elk, deer, and antelope habitat, rolling prairie and scenic bluffs.

LOCAL FLAVOR…Every second full week in August, the Wyoming State Fair, held in Douglas, attracts folks from around the nation with old-fashioned entertainment and rodeos. Experience authentic Western history during Deer Creek Days, held the first weekend of August in Glenrock.

See you in Converse County!
