When in the Jackson Hole area this summer, be sure to take a ride on a horse. There are many types of horse back activities offered in the Jackson Hole area; 1 hour, 2hour, 1/2 day, all day, and over night with fishing. When trying to decide the one that you and your family would like to do first of all be realistic about your abilities and if you have time in your schedual.
Don't be afraid to take an all day ride because actual time in the saddle is ushually 4-5 hours. The rest of the time is taken up with luch and many stops for photo ops. The great thing about all day rides is you have the chance to truly get away from everyone and enjoy the tranquility of nature. I have been around horses all of my life and there is truly no greater animal for relaxing and taking you deep into country that you normally would not see.
If you decide to take a horse back ride clothing choice can make it much more comfortable. Wear snug but not tight clothing, this will help keep from chaffing. If jeans aren't your thing bike riding clothing doubles very well as horse back riding clothing. You should wear a hard soled shoe with a heel. This will keep your feet from getting sore and is safer for you also. Make sure you have some rain gear you never know. Jackets should not be to loose as they can get caught on the saddle horn when getting on and off of the horse.
No matter who you choose remember these horses have been trained to be mild mannered and your guides are proffesionals that are there to help you and make your trip fun. You absolutly need no experience to enjoy Wyoming by horse back.
