Annual Festivals: FossilFest, Oyster Ridge Music Festival

Kemmerer, with a population of 3,020 is the hub of activity for the southern end of Lincoln County. Named for the financier of early coal exploitations in the area, the town was for many years the center of a thriving coal mining industry. This small hamlet is home to two great annual events in FossilFest and the Oyster Ridge Music Festival. The music festival, held in July, has featured Grammy Award winning acts including the Peasall Sisters and Teri Hendricks. The festival was the recipient of the 2005 Governor’s Art Award.

Don't Miss: Kemmerer hosts two great annual events:  Fossilfest and the Oyster Ridge Music Festival.  And be sure to pay a visit to the J.C. Penney Homestead & Historical Foundation where the famous store began http://wyshs.org/mus-jcpenney.htm

And stop by Fossil Butte National Monument to see fossils and, during the summer, witness fossil excavation.
