Crowheart is located 30 miles southeast of Dubois on the Wind River Indian Reservation. It is named after nearby Crowheart Butte, the site of a battle between the Crow and Shoshone American Indian tribes in 1866. The battle lasted five days and was over rights to the hunting grounds in the Wind River Range.
